Plans are in high gear to introduce Cycling BC’s iRide Program to Cranbrook and Kimberley elementary schools this spring. iRide is a Cycling BC program designed to inspire young riders by encouraging health and sport through cycling. Opportunities are provided through iRide for children to experience cycling in safe and fun settings.
Cycling BC, in cooperation with the Kootenay Freewheelers, the Wildhorse Cycling Club and the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club, is working together with local schools to establish the program for Grade 4 students in April & May 2016. The goal is to run the program annually in each school and provide young students with basic cycling knowledge including mount/dismount, start/stop, scan & signal and rules of the road.
The students will use their own bikes for the in-school sessions. To ensure all Grade 4 students can participate organizers are currently acquiring a supply of bikes through donations. If you can help grow the iRide Program and have a bicycle you wish to donate please contact Melanie at 250-489-9101 firstname.lastname@example.org
The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo (Sep 10, 2016) & the upcoming Kids Fondo (May 29, 2016) are exciting events that encourage and promote cycling in our communities. "We live in one of the most beautiful areas of Canada and cycling is a perfect way to enjoy it all with your family" said Glenn Dobie, Gran Fondo Chairperson. "The iRide program will be a terrific introduction for the young students and we are excited to see it coming to Cranbrook."
Cycling BC is offering a two-day NCCP Coaching Clinic in Cranbrook on April 2 & 3 to certify coaches to instruct the iRide Program. Get trained, join in the fun and help introduce this valuable program to Cranbrook & Kimberley children.
